Founded as a station on the St. Louis Brownsville and Mexico Railroad in 1906; named for Donna Hooks, daughter of a townsite promoter. Today a retail center for ranching and intensive agriculture of the Rio Grande Valley; hosts abundant winter visitors.

• DONNA HOOKS FLETCHER MUSEUM - Memorabilia, photos, and artifacts from the town's founding; vintage furniture, hand tools, farm and household articles; restored bar from early-day Blue Goose Saloon. Housed in historic American legion hall (oldest in the nation). Located in the 3rd block of South Main. Open Wed. 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. from September to May.
