Congressman Ralph Moody Hall



United States House of Representatives

Ralph M. Hall, representing the Fourth Congressional Districtin Texas, was first elected to the House of Representatives in1980, and has been subsequently re-elected to each succeedingCongress. Congressman Hall serves on the Committee on Commerce,the Subcommittee assignments of Energy and Power: Health and the Environment: and the Telecommunications and Finance. He also serves on the Committee on Science, with Subcommittee assignment on theSpace Subcommittee, where Congressman Hall is the ranking Democrat.


Texas Public Service

Between 1950 and 1962, Ralph Hall served as the County Judge of Rockwall County, Texas. In 1958-59, he was elected as the President of the State Judges and Commissioner's Association. Congressman Hall served in the Texas Senate from 1962 until 1972, where he served as thePresident Pro Tempora of the Senate in 1968-69.


Personal Background

Ralph Hall was born in Fate, Texas on May 3, 1923, and attendedschool in Rockwall, Texas. After graduating from Rockwall High,he attended the University of Texas and received his L.L.B. SouthernMethodist University in 1951, and was admitted to the Texas Bar.He is a former member of a law firm in Rockwall, Texas, wheretwo of his sons practice law.

Congressman Hall joined the U.S. Navy on December 10, 1942, and served as an aircraft carrier pilot during World War II. Congressman Hall later served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Texas Aluminum Corporation; Special Counsel to Howmet Corporation; and was the founding Chairman of the Lakeside National Bank, Rockwall, Texas.

In 1944, Hall married the former Mary Ellen Murphy. They have three sons, Hampton, Brett, and Blakeley, and four grandchildren.
