GOOD LOCATION
Royse City is located in the northeast corner of Rockwall County on Interstate Highway 30 and U.S. Highway 66,33 miles east of Dallas.
EARLY HISTORY
Royse City was founded in 1886 when G.B. Royse platted the town site and sold the first lot. Shortly after the town was platted, the first businesses were opened by G. B. Royse, Whit Terrell and Fred Mercer.
MILD CLIMATE
The climate in Royse City consists of mild winters and hot summers. Spring and fall are mild with cool nights and warm days. the average maximum temperature in July is 96 degrees and the average temperature in January is 34 degrees. The average freeze dates occur on March 23 and November 14, giving the area a growing season of 236 days. Average annual precipitation is 38.68 inches with April and May the wettest months and July and August the driest.
INDUSTRY
Royse City is located in the Blackland Prairie and developed very early as a fertile farming area, especially for cotton. Agriculture is still a major economic factor for Royse City, but it is also developing a diversified industrial base.
STATISTICS
The City's most recent population estimates (1990 Census) show a population of 2206 with projections showing growth to approximately 5000 by 2005. The current advalorem tax rate for the city is .5085 per $100 of valuation and the sales tax is 1% making Royse City's tax rates among the lowest in the area.
