Established in 1910 as a suitable place for a division terminal for the Santa Fe Rail Road; named for O.L. Slaton, said to have been instrumental in completion of railroad project. Today town serves as a rail center, plus regional agricultural and trade center.
Slaton lies on U.S. 84, a segment of the Ports to Plains Highway
connecting the state's heartland to coastal ports.
