General

First settlers in the area 1848; the town organized about 1873 when the railroad built through. Currently banking-market center for agricultural area featuring cotton, beef cattle and dairying; 33 local industries include garments, steel, aluminum, plastic and wood fabrication. Home of Southwestern Christian College and Trinity Valley Junior College, accredited junior colleges.

• SILENT WINGS MUSEUM - Historical items of local history. In Carnegie building built in 1904 that served as a public library until 1984. Art exhibits on the first floor; historical museum upstairs.
